SECTION 8.01. DIRECTOR DUTIES.
The Mayor shall be the Director of Public Safety and shall be the head of the Department of Public Safety, consisting of the Division of Police, Division of Fire & EMS, and such other divisions in the Department responsible for other public safety functions as, and to the extent created or authorized by Council, including building, engineering, and inspection, health and other public safety matters, and shall make or approve and publish written rules and regulations for the government of this Department and its divisions, and shall be responsible for enforcing all police, health, safety and sanitary regulations that may be prescribed by the ordinances and rules of the City or Ohio laws. SECTION 8.02. DIVISION OF POLICE.
There shall be a Police Chief who shall be the head of the Division of Police.
The Police Chief shall possess such qualifications for the position as established by the Safety Director consistent with applicable Ohio laws.
The Police Chief shall be responsible for the enforcement of all criminal and traffic City ordinances and Ohio laws, shall supervise the activities of all police personnel, and shall be responsible for the maintenance of all specialized equipment, other than building maintenance equipment, utilized by the Division of Police. SECTION 8.03. DIVISION OF FIRE & EMS.
There shall be a Fire Chief who shall be the head of the Division of Fire & EMS.
The Fire Chief shall possess such qualifications for the position as established by the Safety Director consistent with applicable Ohio law.
The Fire Chief shall be responsible for the enforcement of all ordinances and Ohio laws that deal with fire prevention in the City, for the extinguishment and control of fires within the City and providing proper and efficient rescue service in the City, shall supervise the activities of all Fire & EMS Division personnel, and shall be responsible for the maintenance of all specialized equipment, other than building maintenance equipment, utilized by the Fire & EMS Division.
