Councilman John J. Kudley, Jr. began serving as Councilman-at-Large in 2008 having previously served as Ward 3 Council for two terms from 1998-2005. During his first tenure on Council he was elected by his fellow councilmen to serve three terms as Council President.
Councilman Kudley is a 1969 graduate of Muskingum College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree. In 1979 he earned a Master’s degree in American History from Kent State University. He completed a second Master’s degree in Secondary School Administration from Kent State in 1985.
Councilman Kudley is a retired educator having taught history and social studies in the Aurora City Schools for 35 years. During that time he served as Aurora Education Association President for 12 years. He continues his connection to the Aurora Schools in the capacity of Athletic Ticket Manager and Head Girls Varsity Track Coach. Councilman Kudley is also employed by the University of Akron as a supervisor of student teachers. He is currently researching and writing in conjunction with the Aurora Historical Society a history of Aurora from 1900 to the present.
Councilman Kudley and his wife Barb have been married for over 32 years and have 4 children. Barb is the librarian at both Miller and Craddock elementary schools in Aurora. Son J.J. is employed by the City of Aurora in the Parks and Recreation Department. Daughter Molly is married and teaches social studies at Notre Dame Catherdral Latin High School. Her husband Matthew Schneider is a firefighter and paramedic. Son Jeff is enrolled at Cuyahoga Community College in the field of nutrition. Son Stephen is attending Kent State University pursuing a degree in education.
