Councilman Vaca was appointed by City Council to complete the term of Ward One Councilman, after the resignation of Ronald Horn in June 1999. He then went on to win the ward race in November 1999 and was re-elected in 2001 and 2005.  Councilman Vaca previously served as the Chairman to the Service and Utilities Committee, and as a member of the Safety Committee, and the Firemen's Dependency Board. Currently Councilman Vaca serves as the Chairman of the Safety, Service and Utilities Committee, and as a member of the Parks and Recreation Board and the Building and Grounds Committee. Councilman Vaca is retired and was the Assistant Meat Department Manager and a meat cutter for Heinen's Supermarkets where he had been employed for 33 1/2 years. In addition, he has been a part-time Firefighter/EMT for Aurora for the past 28 years. Mr. Vaca previously served as Councilman for Ward One from 1986 to 1989, and also has 9 years experience with the Service Committee. He has worked as a poll worker for the Portage County Board of Elections for 20 years, is a charter member of the Aurora School Bus Transportation Committee, served on the Aurora Youth Commission, was involved in the Aurora Community Theatre for 4 years, and has served for 16 years as Trustee/President of the Geauga Lake Improvement Association. An Aurora High School graduate, Mr. Vaca has been an area resident for over 54 years. He has been married for 42 years, with 4 children and 7 grandchildren. As an antique automobile buff, he enjoys driving a 1957 Chevy during the summer. He also enjoys working with wood, steel and paint, as well as being involved in the community.
