  About Our Department
The Building Department administers the commercial and residential building codes, issues permits, conducts inspections, and registers contractors to work in the City.  The Planning and Zoning Department is responsible for overseeing all land use activities within the city. Such activities may include new residential subdivisions, commercial and industrial sites and open space and recreation facilities, to name but a few. Individuals wishing to initiate any type of building or development project should contact the Planning and Zoning Department to determine the necessary plans and specifications that will be required in reviewing a given project. The Planning and Zoning Department also oversees the implementation of the city's Master Plan, which outlines specific goals and objectives for guiding and managing Aurora's growth into the 21st century.

  Drilling of Wells
In September of 2004, the State of Ohio passed House Bill 278 which removed the city's authority over the drilling of gas and oil wells. All well drilling is now under the authority of the state, which only has to provide the city with notice of applications for drilling if requested. (The city has requested to be notified.) Should you need information regarding any wells being drilled please direct them to:
