When Permits are Required
Permits are required for all new construction, remodeling, renovation, demolition, major repair, moving of structures, occupancy, and any other work except minor repairs and finish work in or on all commercial, industrial, and residential structures. All contractors must be registered to work in the City. Obtaining a permit will help ensure that the work is completed correctly and safely.
Permit Time Limits
Residential permits are good for one year from the date of issuance; commercial permits do not have an expiration date. Residential permits become invalid if work is not commenced within six months; for commercial permits the period is twelve months. Both types of permits become invalid if work is suspended for six months after work is begun. In all such instances extensions may be granted.
