General Information 
The Aurora Building Department is certified by the Ohio Board of Building Standards and as such is authorized to enforce the commercial building codes adopted by the State. In addition the department enforces the residential building code adopted by the City and other applicable City ordinances.

  Enforcement Procedures 
The Building Department is authorized to enforce its codes through a variety of means, ranging from Stop Work Orders to criminal citations. Both civil and criminal penalties, including fines, can be levied where appropriate.

The Building Department enforces the provisions of the following codes:

• Ohio Building Code

• Ohio Mechanical Code

• Ohio Plumbing Code

• National Electric Code

• Ohio Residential Code

• Aurora Codified Ordinances

Copies of the codes are available in our office for reference.

  Department Staff 

The Building Department employs a full staff of certified personnel:

• Rich Wehrenberg Planning, Zoning and Building Division Director and Residential Chief Building Official

• Denise Januska City Planner

• Lionel Finch Building Inspector

• Angela Cavanaugh City Architect/Plans Examiner

• Al Hall Planning and Zoning Inspector

Certified backup personnel are also retained to ensure continuity of service.
