GIS - MAPS

What is GIS?
A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computerized mapping system used to assemble, store, manipulate, update, analyze and display geographically referenced data.  GIS allows the user to view, edit, query and analyze data, then display it into easily understandable maps.

Aurora ’s GIS

GIS was implemented in Aurora about 10 years ago under the direction of the Mayor and City Council and continues to evolve.  Since its inception, it has become a vital component of city government with uses in resource management, development, planning and decision-making.

Aurora’s GIS is made up of a system of data “layers” which include parcels, streets, building footprints, open spaces, zoning districts, wetlands, streams, lakes, sewer pipes, water mains, snow plow routes, elevations, precincts, floodplains, soil types, street trees, and aerial photos to name a few.  In the near future, additional support will come from Portage County which has commenced with an enterprise GIS initiative.

To request a GIS map, please complete the Standard Map Request Form or Custom Map Request Form and fax (330-562-9719) or email to Courtney Schumm.

For GIS information, please contact the GIS Coordinator Courtney Schumm at 330-995-8867.
