About Our Department
The Aurora Fire Department serves the City of Aurora, Ohio, an area covering 25 square miles and home to roughly 15,000 residents, though seasonal tourism often boosts our daytime population to over 60,000. We respond over 1500 times a year to provide emergency medical services, fire suppression, smoke/carbon monoxide alarm investigations, and public assistance. Some of our other daily activities include fire prevention inspections, and teaching fire safety, CPR, and first aid.
Under the direction of the Honorable Mayor Lynn McGill, and Chief Dave Barnes, the mission of the Aurora Fire Department is to provide the highest quality of fire and rescue services to the residents and visitors of our beautiful city. Our goal is to use our training, expertise, and resources to protect, rescue, or assist in any way possible those who call on us for help.
Working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week toward that end is a team of full and part time personnel. Our staff includes the Chief, Asst. Chief, 3 full time Captains, 3 full time Lieutenants, 12 full time and approximately 20 part time Firefighters. All Aurora Firefighters are certified Emergency Medical Technicians and most are further certified as Paramedics. Working out of 2 stations, the Aurora Fire Department operates 4 fire engines (pumpers), 1 aerial ladder platform truck, 3 rescue squads, and 4 support vehicles.
