OPEN BURNING GUIDANCE
Because it is important for the fire and police to respond to real emergencies and not be tied up with neighborhood conflicts, the following framework should be followed when setting cookout fires.
Appropriate fire use:
1. Small fires, safely contained, using firewood. Fires should be set at the back of properties
2. Small fires for food preparation only
3. Fires that last no more than two (2) hours
4. Make sure that smoke doesn’t drift or migrate toward neighbors’ homes
Inappropriate fire use:
1. Fires are not to be left unattended
2. All fires should be extinguished with water at the end of use. They should not be left smoking or smoldering
3. Fires should not be set on hot, stagnant ozone days. The Fire Official may prohibit any or all fires when atmospheric conditions or local circumstances make such fires hazardous or when such fires are or could be offensive or objectionable due to smoke or odor emissions.
4. No burning of scrap wood, papers or garbage
