 General Information/Aurora Cemetery

 

The Aurora Cemetery is located on SR 43, just west of the Aurora Police Department (100 South Aurora Road); it is divided into 8 sections:  A, B, C, D, E, F, G, GB, AND I.    Burials date back to its establishment in 1829.  The Service Division of the Department of Public Services maintains the grounds and there are 2,804burials as of  May 15, 2012.

Please click onto the "Rules/Regulations" for more information.  A copy of the Fees and Regulations also may be found in the lobbies of the Service Center at 158 W. Pioneer Trail and Town Hall  at 130 S. Chillicothe.  

Special Note on Decorations/Plants placed on gravesites:  The Department holds no liability for damage to items placed on gravesites (artificial or real).  It is the responsibility of the grave tender to maintain the area on which the decoration is placed.  The City has the right to remove any unslightly or weathered decorations at its discretion.

 Memorial Day Ceremony, May 28
 
 
The Memorial Day Ceremony begins with the American Legion Post 803  at the Veterans Memorial at Breezy Point Park on SR 82 at 10:00 am.  After its presentation, parade participants will march to the Aurora Cemetery and be joined by the VFW Post 2629 to continue the service.  As is customary, Mayor McGill will read outloud the names of those Aurora veterans who have passed away.      
 
The community is welcome to share in this annual ritual to honor our veterans!

Per City records, there are a total of 504 deceased veterans from Aurora. Some were laid to rest in the Aurora Cemetery... some were lost in action... and some were buried in other cemeteries.
