It is the responsibility of grave tenders to maintain any decorations and plantings (artificial or real) free from debris and grass or weed growth.  The Department will remove any weathered decorations at its discretion.) The City is not responsible for damage or theft of articles and decorations placed at the gravesites.

Fees for services rendered and work performed in the Aurora Cemetery by City employees shall be as set forth in the following fee schedule and shall apply to all sections of the Aurora Cemetery:

  • Add 50% for interments on Saturday and/or City observed holidays.
  • Interment fee includes grding, seeding, and perpetual maintenance.
  • Fees are subject to change by the City of Aurora, without notice. Traditionally, the fees are increased on    January 1 of a new year authorized per City Ordinance based on Cost-of-Living Index.
  • Grave and burial fees must be paid prior to burial.  
  • Burial Regulations

    All burial receptacles, which exceed fifty (50) inches in length, shall be constructed of reinforced concrete, metal or other similar permanent material commonly accepted for burial purposes; the composition and design of which shall be subject to the approval by the Service Director. This rule does not apply to indigent interments.

    In any one gravesite, one of the following combinations is permitted:
    1.  One vault interment
    2.  One ash interment
    3.  One vault interment with one ash interment on top of vault
    4.  Two ash interments

    Monument Foundations

    Monument foundations shall be installed only by the City of Aurora and the cost thereof billed and paid for by the monument company, or the lot owner before installation. The City shall provide a foundation free of charge for a veteran’s marker furnished by the U.S. Government. All foundation bases shall be below ground and/or flush with existing ground elevation.

    Flush Monuments are permitted in Sections E and G; these monuments are placed at the foot of the grave.

    Above-ground and/or flush monuments are permitted in Sections A,B,C, D, F and GB; monuments in these sections will usually be placed on the head of the grave. As there is a mixture of headstones and footstones in some parts of these sections. A decision to place a monument at other than the head location may be made jointly with the family and the Service Department if the proposed placement may not be aesthetically pleasing.

    Section Rules

    Plantings/Decorations for All Sections  No planting of permanent plants, such as trees, shrubs, flowers, etc., is permitted without prior approval of the Cemetery Sexton. Requests may be provided in writing to the City of Aurora,  Director of Public Service,  158 West Pioneer Trail,  Aurora  OH  44202.

    The planting of annual/perennial flowers or placement of artificial flowers and miscellaneous decorations are permitted at the gravesite throughout the year. Those who place decorations on the gravesites are requested to maintain these items; there are trash cans available for disposal of items and access to water. The City Service Department has two annual cemetery cleanups, spring and fall.   The City does not assume any liability for damage to decorations/plants/temporary tributes or missing flower containers or decorations.    The cemetery crew will remove and dispose of weathered or unsightly decorations/plants at its discretion.
