Law Director Dean DePiero Biography

Dean DePiero was appointed to a 4 year term as Law Director of Aurora on January 1, 2014 and re-appointed January 1, 2018. As Law Director, he serves as legal advisor and attorney to the Mayor, City Council, all administrative departments, committees, commissions and boards. In addition, the Law Director drafts legislation, renders legal opinions, reviews all city contracts and is the city prosecutor.
Dean graduated from Ashland University in 1990 and from Cleveland Marshall College of Law in 1994. He has served of counsel within the Cleveland law firm of McDonald Hopkins since 2005 where his focus has been municipal law, government affairs, real estate law, criminal law, and receivership law.  Dean is also the founder of DePiero Law, a law practice he manages. 
Prior to being appointed Law Director, he served as Assistant Law Director and Prosecutor in the City of Berea, Ohio (1995-1998), and Assistant Law Director and Prosecutor in the City of Broadview Heights, Ohio (2012-Present). He was an elected Councilman in Parma (1995-1998) and a State Representative (1999-2003). He also served as the City of Parma's Mayor from 2004-2012 and as a trustee for the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD) (2007-2012).  Dean is a certified Mayor's court Magistrate and serves various local municipalities.  
He currently serves on the Parma Community Hospital Foundation Board and was appointed as  Vice President of the Cuyahoga County Public Library Board through 2024.  He is also a member of the Northern Ohio Law Director's Association, Ohio State Bar Association, and the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association.

Throughout his career, Dean has been recognized by a number of different organizations.  Among them, Crain's "Cleveland 40 under 40's class."  Dean has been honored as the Ohio Trial Lawyer's Legislator of the year.  In addition, he was also honored by the Parma Area Chamber of Commerce as a Pride Award Recipient. 

Dean's late wife Kathleen, a former reporter for Fox 8 News in Cleveland, is mother of their 2 children, Blake and Hadley.
