Parks & Nature Preserves

Welcome to Aurora’s Parks and Recreation Department

Aurora's more than 1,800 city-owned acres of park and greenspace are a source of pride and enjoyment for all. We work hard to maintain our 13 active and passive park and preserve areas, which include a nature preserve, dog park, disc golf course, and community garden as well as playgrounds, hiking trails, lakes, athletic fields, Moebius Nature Center, and our latest addition: Aurora Splash Pad.

Aurora’s Parks and Recreation Department prides itself on offering a variety of programming for the entire community. Classes cover a wide range of interests and ages, from after-school art to adult exercise, drivers education to learning guitar. Recreation level youth sports programs offer year-round opportunities to stay active and enjoy our first-rate athletic fields, while adults can get in on the fun via adult softball leagues and open gyms. We work with multiple community organizations and Aurora City Schools to bring Aurora residents the activities and programs they most enjoy. Our older residents enjoy a vibrant Seniors program full of ongoing activities, specialty programs, and trips using the city’s own 26-passenger van. You will see the bus heading to local travel destinations to enjoy tours, concerts, shows, sporting events and more.
There is always something to celebrate in Aurora, and our community calendar is full of events that bring our community together.

We are well known for our 4th of July celebration, but we also enjoy summer concerts, festivals, races including a Thanksgiving morning Turkey Trot, and more. Aurora is a beautiful community that truly provides something for everyone. Enjoy exploring!
