The Building Division performs numerous services for the citizens, building owners and contractors that live and work within the city.  Building staff provide consultation, complete plan review, issue permits and conduct inspection services. We are dedicated to ensuring public safety in the built environment through the adoption and administration of both local and State of Ohio commercial and residential building codes.

Building Process Basics

  • Start your project by obtaining the appropriate application packet in the permits and forms section or from our office. 
  • Various building codes are used to review, approve and inspect construction projects.
  • Once the application is received, our staff will route it to all the necessary departments and/or boards to obtain approval.

  • ABR Residential Guidelines
  • ABR Commercial/Industrial Guidelines
  • All general and subcontractors must be registered with the city before the city will issue a permit.
  • Call our office at 330-562-9564 and schedule necessary inspections.
  • Once all required inspections are passed, an occupancy certificate will be issued.

Additional Information

Our division also provides administrative support to the Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Landmark Commission, the Architectural Board of Review, and the Building Code Board of Appeals.
