About the Team

The Aurora Police Department joined the Metro SWAT Team in 2006. This team is a multi-jurisdictional team consisting of 19 agencies from Summit and Portage counties. The unit’s members are highly trained with specific skills in the areas of marksmanship, tactical response and containment, emergency medical care, deployment of specialty munitions, and hostage / crisis negotiations.

The Aurora Police Department currently has 2 officers assigned to the team. Two of the members are assigned as tactical operators and the other serves as a hostage / crisis negotiator.

  • Officer Michelle Ice is a negotiator and the team leader for the negotiators. Ofc. Ice has been on Metro about nine years and has been the team leader for the negotiators for four years. Ofc. Ice has attended multiple negotiator schools, including the FBI negotiator school. Ofc. Ice has also completed the week-long basic SWAT school. 
  • Officer Chris Cruise is a tactical member and a team leader for Metro. Ofc. Cruise has been on Metro for about six years and is completing his first year as one of six team leaders on the tactical side. He is also a member of the sniper team. Ofc.
