Biography & Achievements
Councilman John J. Kudley, Jr. began serving as Councilman-at-Large in 2008 having previously served as Ward 3 Council for 2 terms from 1998 to 2005. During his first tenure on Council he was elected by his fellow councilmen to serve 3 terms as Council President.
Councilman Kudley is a 1969 graduate of Muskingum College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree. In 1979 he earned a Master’s degree in American History from Kent State University. He completed a second Master’s degree in Secondary School Administration from Kent State in 1985.
Councilman Kudley is a retired educator having taught history and social studies in the Aurora City Schools for 35 years. During that time he served as Aurora Education Association President for 12 years. He continues his connection to the Aurora Schools in the capacity of Athletic Ticket Manager and Head Girls Varsity Track Coach. Councilman Kudley is also employed by the University of Akron as a supervisor of student teachers. He is the author of "More Than A Landmark: The History of the Church in Aurora", "1809-2009" and is currently researching and writing in conjunction with the Aurora Historical Society a history of Aurora from 1900 to the present.
Councilman Kudley and his wife Barb have been married for more than 37 years and have 4 children. Barb is the librarian at both Miller and Craddock elementary schools in Aurora. Son J.J. is married and is employed by the City of Aurora in the Parks and Recreation Department. His wife Sarah earned her Doctorate in Pharmacology and is employed as the Pharmacist Incharge at Kindred Hospital. Daughter Molly is married and teaches social studies and is a department chair at Notre Dame Cathedral Latin High School. Her husband, Matthew Schneider, is a firefighter and paramedic for the City of Stow and works part-time with the Aurora Fire Department. Her son, Jeff, lives in Columbus, Ohio and is pursuing a degree in nutrition at the Ohio State College of Medicine. Son Stephen graduated from Kent State University with a degree in Health & Human Services.
