A parade was held today to celebrate Aurora resident Asa Newman’s 102nd birthday. Mayor Ann Womer Benjamin was honored to present a proclamation to Mr. Newman, one of the original Tuskegee Airmen. Congressman Dave Joyce’s office presented a United States flag flown over the Capitol and the Portage County Commissioners declared today “Asa Newman Day.” Common Pleas Judge Becky Doherty also attended the festivities, with Councilman and Air Force veteran Harold Hatridge serving as emcee. The parade had participants from surrounding communities as well as many neighbors, friends and city employees, including the Aurora Police and Fire departments. Happy Birthday Asa Newman and thank you for your service!
